The YourMathsTutor Community Forum uses \LaTeX commands as a way of including math notation in your posts. For example, if I have a question concerning integrating an equation then on some forums I would be forced to post something like this: -

the integral between -1 and 2 of the equation y = x3 - x2 - 2x

...which can begin to get very hard to understand  Huh

But on The Maths Forum you can use \LaTeX to specify this equation. The \LaTeX command for that equation looks like this:-

\int^2_{-1}(x^3 - x^2 - 2x)\,dx

Enclose this LaTeX code in [tex]...[/tex] tags before you post it and it will look like this: -

\int^2_{-1}(x^3 - x^2 - 2x)\,dx

...which is much easier to understand  Smiley

There are three ways of writing maths code...

  • Write out the \LaTeX command in full - including writing the [tex]...[/tex] tags yourself. Not for the faint-hearted Blink.
  • Click on the LaTeX button. This inserts the [tex]...[/tex] tags automatically but you still have to write the \LaTeX command yourself Erm....

  • Use the DragMath editor. DragMath is an open-source drag and drop equation editor written in Java. Once you have created your expression it is automatically converted into a \LaTeX command and inserted into your post. Click on the DragMath button to open the DragMath editor. The first time you open the editor you may see a security warning. If you do just click on accept/ok/run (whichever applies). DragMath is the easy way to include maths in your posts Thumbs Up.
